As children learn to read and write they begin to notice the sounds that make up words that they speak and hear. Some skills include the ability to rhyme, identify the first and last sounds in words, clap syllables in words and knowledge of the letter/sound correspondence.
Social interactions skills are required for a child to notice and be motivated to interact with others. Some children with a specific diagnosis such as Autism Spectrum Disorder require explicit teaching in this area.
